Melaka
When you think of Melaka..what is the first thing that comes into your mind?? Me?? GULA MELAKA!! :p probably the best thing that ever happen to melaka...if there is no gula melaka, means no sago gula melaka, no nice cendol and ABC...what's life without those?? support?? =)
Next thing comes in mind..chicken rice ball...imagine the pipping hot chicken rice ball that is soft and so fragrant, served with the silky smooth steam chicken...oh heaven...that is my version of great chicken rice ball..but sadly..the one that we went this time the had degraded...
The chicken rice ball is cold and soggy..and the rice is overcook so it the texture is like mash potato as Carlos said... disappointing indeed...
Just a look at the presentation, you can tell the person who chopped the chicken did not even put any effort into itand just dump everything on the platter...the chicken was a disaster...even the chicken rice in KL taste better than this..its tough and chewy...what happen to the nice chicken rice ball?? how sad...this is what that happen when everything is too commercialize...
Fine..mind that chicken rice..let's go for Portuguese food..Never tried Portuguese before so wanted to try something new..so we headed to the Portuguese Village to try their cuisine..there is one whole row of stalls all numbered..so once you land there..people from each stalls will crowd you and promoting their stalls to you..it reminded me of China really..its scary and irritating at the same time..because they just follow you everywhere you go talking to you even though you are not interested...
We went to the ones with most customers...and this is what we saw..
Loads of rare seafood that we won't normally see in most places...we were told that the scary thing with sharp tail at the corner is called the horse shoe crab...Some even call the King crab..you don't eat the meat because there is no meat!! but you eat the eggs...I once saw it in travel and living, and the host hated it because it tasted weird...so its a no no for us..then can you see one whole row of oysters on the right?? yes..its oysters in different size..the biggest one is even bigger than my head...>.<
there...the huge oyster...but if compare with the 'si ham' its not that big right? but I must tell you..the 'si ham' is x5 of the normal ones we eat...then imagine the size of the huge oyster...>.<
Fried Calamari...not quite sure it is Portuguese though...its okay...not great..
Ini dia our huge 'si ham'... normally when you eat 'si ham', its better if you eat it medium well...people say its dirty and muddy..but you still eat it right? haha..its a must have in curry laksa..without it..its like laksa without part of its soul...I must say...this huge 'si ham' is very satisfying...you can hardly find 'si ham' this size really..
We had Sitr Fried Kang Kung and bake bamboo clam also..but its is just okay..nothing much special about it...so will not talk about it..so first time Portuguese experience?? I think we ate at the wrong place..haha..it taste like normal chinese restaurant cuisine..nothing special about it...
Went Jonker Street as usual..the most have thing here is probably the mochi...
After Jonker Street, went to eat fried oyster...
A must order...Lin Chi Kang ala Melaka...and yes..its macaroni you see..haha..I guess they want to have a different texture in it..but seriously, it tasted nice though...its like a fusion Italian Malaysian dessert....super cooling...
B said it just tasted okay...not super nice..I like the coriander best... :p
Anyway..there is a story when its comes to this..When we were half way eating...here comes a beggar topless walking towards us..From far I can see he is scratching his balls already..when he came near us I knew something was wrong...he stand beside Randall and started to scratch his balls. Seriously scratching his balls in front of us when we are eating..how appetizing is that?? I dont even dare to look at him because I don't want to see any birds when I am eating..mana tau he sees me looking at him he will get high...urgh idiot...but luckily he did not take out his bird...Randall said he will punch him if he does that..so..how nice can our fried oyster be?? haha
Nyonya food
This should be a fusion of Chinese and Malay food..where to find the best Nyonya food? should be where it first started right?? Melaka...but a lot of people said Penang Nyonya food is great too..but did not get the chance to taste it so will not comment about it...
Cincaluk Omellete..what is cincaluk?? its a pickled small shrimps in bottles.. So what happen when you fry it with eggs?? ermm...tasted like cincaluk and egg?? lame I know..but to be honest, probably because they only put a little bit of it so it just tasted like egg to be...probably it will taste better with more cincaluk..
Ponteh chicken is another must order when it comes to Nyonya cuisine.what is it actually? its basically chicken with brown bean paste...sometimes you can add more garlic if you like it more garlic-ky.thats what my mum likes to do...
Asam fish...what should I say about this? it should be sour and spicy but not too spicy until it will kill you..the fish must be fresh served with okra and tomatoes...normally they use sting ray in this dish...
Next stop...Nyonya laksa..
Honestly..I don't really know whats the difference between nyonya laksa and assam laksa...what I know is..assam laksa they use mint leaves..and nyonya laksa they used sliced cucumber..>.< but this one that we tasted has no ohmm in it...the flavor is not intense and its not spicy enough for me...I prefer the ones they sell in Jalan Alor..it makes you sweat like mad...thats..heaven.. =)
Ikan Bakar
ohhh..this...is a must have in Melaka I guess..normally when we eat ikan bakar, the sambal belacan is pour over it right?? and sometimes they even put okra and onions with it..but this one we went..they just purely grilled the fish, and serve the belacan at a side..so you can adjust your spiciness according to your liking...
The famous Nasi Lemak...why is is nice? A nice nasi lemak comes with a good old Sambal with steaming hot rice served with banana leaf..and they did it all right...=) slurrpp...
Our ikan bakar...told you they just grilled it...=)
Grill sotong and ikan kembung..
Finally..the best thing that ever happen to me in Melaka!!! teng teng teng =====
The heavenlicious crepe cake..
You can call me noob..but I had never tried crepe cake in my life before so this is my very first time...heard much about it...so I die die also must try this in Melaka...what is a crepe cake? Crepe is a super thin slice of pan cake...its layers of crepe with pastry cream in it..slurrrppp....the thing about crepe cake is it requires a lot of labour work...you must make the crepe layers by layers and each layers must be very thin and it must not break of have holes in it... and this baby here..just melts in your mouth..the best is still the original crepe cake...because you can taste the crepe and the flavors within...you can have other flavors as well..like rum and raisin, cheese ( not recommended because it is quite sourish..), tiramisu and others...
I never tasted anything like this...and to me..its heaven when you eat it with a cup of english tea...ohhh~~~ I want crepe cake...=)
and so..that ends my Melaka journey..mouth watering already?? :p
