Its all about home cook food. =)
What is this?
Looking like an Indian Thosai?
Well it is not, unfortunately. I wish I know how to make thosai at home myself. haha. This is actually a very thin savory pancake. Instead of making it like a normal pancake, we made it ultra thin so it will look like thosai. So what is in it? We have some dry prawns, onions, chives and chili flakes in it. Taste wise? Of course it it nice. =) So why dont you try making savory pancake at home for breakfast instead of eating sweet pancake next time?
Looking cute?
These are cute little deep fried wanton that we made ourselves. As a filling, we have some minced pork, mash potato, carrot, chives and a little crab stick. Just rolled it up in whichever way you want, as long as they closed up together nicely and deep fry it. Eat it with some chili sauce or thai chilly sauce would be the best! The fun of making wanton at home is the process of rolling it together with your family and eating it while it is crispy. Awesome. =)
Mushroom shell pasta with leek, luncheon meat and tomatoes
Yes. You heard it correctly, luncheon meat in pasta. Awesome! The flavors of fresh shitake mushroom is amazing in this dish, added with the sweetness of leeks and a bit little meat kick from the luncheon meat. I threw in my favorite spice as well, fennel seeds for that extra Asian kick in this pasta. Overall, it is good! =)
Creme Caramel!
One fine day after watching Jamie Oliver making ice cream in AFC, our dessert crave kicks in and decided to make creme caramel at night! Well, it is pretty simple to make actually. You just need some milk, eggs, vanilla essence and sugar. First, boil some sugar with a bit of water to make the caramel. Then heat up the milk with a cap of vanilla essence. Let it cool down after it boils. While waiting, beat the eggs together with sugar and add in the milk after it is warm and not hot. Strain the custard mixture to make sure that there are no lumps in it. Pour a layer of caramel in your mold and let it harden. Then pour in the mixture into the mold and put it into a bain marie ( water bath ) in the oven. When it is cook to perfection, chill it in the fridge and voila! You have creme caramel for dessert! =)
Eating out!!
After looking at the food we cooked at home, lets look at some food that we had outside. =)
Nothing beats a descent plate of Mee Goreng Mamak! Slurrpps~
I have no idea how to do it at Mamak because I can never cook a Mee Goreng as good as this at home. =) It is hot and spicy with a little hint of sourness from the limau, perfectly seasoned with some good wok hei, there you go, a very humble plate of Mee Goreng Mamak.
Heard of Marufuku Udon at Jaya One?
It is a newly open restaurant in Jaya One selling Japanese Udon.
Their Menu
As you can see from their menu, they specialize in Udon and the price is pretty cheap considering it is a Japanese Restaurant. The most interesting thing I found about this restaurant is that they not only specialize in Udon, but also their service concept. It is a self service restaurant where you order your food directly from the Micros System, then you will proceed to a food counter where you can get other side dishes like kakiage, chicken croque, and edaname for a very cheap price. Green tea is also refillable, of course you need to refill it yourself. =) Once your order is ready, the server will then bring it to your table.
Spot the micros on the right and the food counter in the middle.Interesting right?
We had
Salade Udon
Salade udon is actually cold udon with julienne carrots, cucumbers, spring onions, shredded egg and tofu served with sesame sauce
It is my very first time to eat a cold udon served with sesame sauce. I am not really familiar with Japanese sesame sauce so on my first bite, I find it a little funny but tasty at the same time. As I eat more, I realize that it is quite addictive. Too bad the udon is a bit hard, if not this would be a perfect dish to be eaten in a hot afternoon. =)
Wakame Udon
Wakame is also known as seaweed in Japanese. This, is nice. =) My bowl is filled with my favorite seaweed accompanied by some sawi ( which is a little weird i know ) with some chopped spring onions. The broth is tasty but not too salty and the udon is cooked to perfection. Arrr..Udon. =) If you ever stop by Jaya One, why not try some affordable Udon at Marufuku Udon.
Well Cook Gourmet Restaurant, SS14
Talking about this restaurant, I am sure most of you are familiar with their signature dish, which is Fried Laksa. For those don't know what is fried laksa, it tasted like Assam Laksa, but instead of having it with broth, it is fried. =) And it looks like this
Fried Laksa
Taste like Assam Laksa, even the garnishing resembles Assam Laksa. So for those Assam lovers out there, you must try the Fried Laksa here, because it is simply awesome. How should I describe the taste other than it tasted like Assam Laksa? Hmmm. It is very flavorful as it is very well seasoned, it is not too dry and not too wet, the texture is perfect as you can feel the smoothness of the lai fun, the crunchiness of the cucumber, onions and not to forget the aromas of bunga kantang and mint leaves that just lift up the whole dish. NICE! =) They are famous for their clay pot too.
Claypot Yee Mee
A humble pot of Yee Mee. =)
As for dessert, what is better than Snowflakes??
Its the Coco Loco
Why I choose this instead of my normal favorite snowflakes? I am attracted by Gula Melaka they used here. hahaha..=p
Looking fabulous isn't it?
Slurrrrppppppsss
I added my favorite Ocha Balls in this bowl as well, because I simply love it. The plus point about this is they used coconut ice instead of normal ice, topped it up with some grass jelly, stringy jelly, and taro balls, not to forget my favorite Gula Melaka and self topped up ocha balls. What else can you ask for for a perfect afternoon dessert? ^^v
So much for much for my foodie updates today. Getting hungry yet? =p
